California’s Receiver Room Faces The Red Pen

Rollmerican’s early box scores already expose several avoidable lineup leaks, including a few in California.

Captured Sunday, Sept. 13, at 5:14 p.m. PDT, Rollmerican has not crowned any Week 1 winners yet, but the lineup autopsy drawer is already full. Start with California Stoners, because that is where the local interest lives and where the criticism is fair. Deebo Samuel Sr., added Sep. 10, scored 23 on the bench and would have beaten Drake London’s 6 by 17 or Davante Adams’ 5 by 18. At kickoff, Adams was projected 17 and Deebo 10, so this was more bad result than bad process. The fair demand is a fresh receiver comparison next week, not pretending these players shared the same NFL offense or that a lower-projected bench option was an obvious start.

Accomplished Accomplice has fewer excuses. Zay Flowers scored 42 on the bench and Dalton Kincaid 26, while Terry McLaurin managed 2 and Harold Fannin Jr. scored 4. Those legal swaps are brutal: Flowers over McLaurin is plus-40, Flowers over Jameson Williams is plus-33, and Kincaid over Fannin is plus-22. Flowers also held the higher projection over McLaurin, 20 to 15, giving the alternative a stronger pregame case. Projection alone cannot settle a decision, but this one merits a direct explanation.

Queen in the North left Parker Washington’s 28 on the bench while Rome Odunze gave 10, a clean plus-18 miss in a WR slot. Real Life Al Bundy started A.J. Brown for 5 despite a zero projection and left Mike Evans’ 21 unused, a 16-point outcome gap. The timing of that zero projection is not verified, so it should prompt a review rather than a claim that the manager knowingly conceded the points. That same team’s Brock Bowers slot is murkier; the current Yahoo OUT tag does not prove the manager had actionable pre-kickoff information, so blame belongs elsewhere.

Mr. McGibblets produced the wildest bench gallery: Trevor Lawrence 72 over Joe Burrow 39 for plus-33, Christian Watson 53 over Ja’Marr Chase 2 for plus-51, and Dallas Goedert 39 over Sam LaPorta 9 for plus-30. Yet projections favored all three starters, so the lesson is not “bench stars forever.” It is simpler. In this touchdown-heavy format, managers need one flexible seat each week for ceiling players in better scoring environments. California’s next version of that lesson starts with Deebo.
