California’s Tony Romo bench covers three positions in the Sep. 11 roster update: Parker Washington, Jayden Reed and Michael Pittman Jr. at receiver, Kenny Gainwell and Aaron Jones Sr. at running back, and Jared Goff at quarterback. That is a useful distribution of reserve spots, even though the value of each option still depends on playing time and availability.
In full PPR, that matters more than it would in Rollmerican. Washington, Reed and Pittman all carry pathways to usable catch volume. Gainwell and Jones offer different kinds of running-back insulation. Goff gives California a second quarterback without forcing a desperate weekly decision. None of that wins Week 1 by itself, but all of it improves the club’s ability to survive the first month.
Compare that with rival benches that feel more specialized or more strained. Tush Push Nation has attractive pieces in Brian Thomas Jr. and Dallas Goedert, plus a playable second quarterback in Matthew Stafford, but the backfield insulation looks thinner. Pat’s Perfect Team has some bench pop, especially with Purdy’s 28.10 already visible, yet the IR tag on Isiah Pacheco narrows the cushion.
The larger point is flexibility. California can watch the first full weekend of routes and touches before deciding which reserves deserve a larger role. Tush Push and Pat’s also have options, so this is not a league-wide depth ranking. The Stoners’ opportunity is to turn several possible replacements into a clearer next-week plan without confusing a recognizable name with a guaranteed workload.
