California Stoners led Tush Push Nation by just 0.42 in the Sep. 10, 6:23 p.m. PT Tony Romo update, 21.82–21.40. Harrison Mevis was still playing at that point. The projections favored California 116.70–109.17, but those figures describe Thursday’s league update, not a fresh Friday scoreboard. The useful question now is what California can learn about its roster before the rest of Week 1 unfolds.
The bench included Jared Goff, Jayden Reed, Kenny Gainwell, Michael Pittman Jr. and Aaron Jones Sr. Having those options does not prove the Stoners made the right opening lineup, but it gives the club choices for later weeks. Goff provides a second quarterback to evaluate; the receivers and backs offer different ways to cover the flex. The better test is how much of that depth California would actually trust in a starting spot. Tush Push Nation had Matthew Stafford on its bench in the same update, so neither side needs to manufacture a quarterback transaction simply to feel active.
Jerky Jones versus The Bower Rangers is the same lesson wearing louder colors. Jerky led 13-0 in the latest update and was also projected ahead 128.19-113.95. Nice start, sure. But zero points from The Bower Rangers in an in-progress snapshot is not failure; it may just mean unstarted players. Week 1 asks you to confuse sequence with quality. Good managers decline the invitation.
California’s takeaway is almost annoyingly sensible: trust the projection edge, enjoy none of the scoreboard comfort, and keep the bench flexible until the Sunday slate tells the truth.
