Start with the obvious lesson from this week: Deebo’s 23 bench points do not help California’s 52 captured total. But the move still makes strategic sense because it increases the number of players on the roster who can win a week on touchdowns without needing eight catches to get there. That is exactly what this scoring system rewards.
The transactions also changed other benches. Paintin’ Manning added Seattle’s defense for Stefon Diggs, and Real Life Al Bundy added Blake Corum for Kyler Murray. Those are confirmed moves; they do not establish why either team made them or guarantee future points. California’s task is to judge its own additions by playing time and scoring opportunities.
California now has reserve options at both running back and wide receiver. Jones and Lloyd cover the backfield; Deebo, Sutton and Johnston cover receiver. That flexibility is useful, although depth only pays off when a player earns enough touches to start.
