California’s Rollmerican matchup is the classic Thursday trap: nice lead, bad projection, nervous room. At Sep. 11, 12:05 p.m. PT, the Stoners lead Lasso’s Goldfish 52-38, yet the projected finish sits at 208-213. That means the league overview still sees California as five points short despite a 14-point lead already on the board.
California already got 23 points from the Rams defense, five from Davante Adams and 24 from Kyren Williams in completed NFL games. That leaves Josh Allen, Jonathan Taylor, Drake London, Rashee Rice, Tyler Warren, David Montgomery and Jake Bates to determine the rest of the week. The touchdown premium gives those remaining slots plenty of room to change the picture.
That also explains why Deebo Samuel Sr. should not be dragged into the Week 1 panic. He is the newly acquired receiver, but he is on the bench and locked scoring does not rewind. The question for this week is not whether California made the right addition Thursday night. The question is whether the remaining starters can turn a decent opening into a true finish.
From a team-view standpoint, the right read is aggressive calm. A 52-point start is useful, not decisive, in a non-PPR league with 12-point touchdowns. California does not need to apologize for the early bank. It needs its core scorers to deliver the part of the week that projections still believe belongs to Lasso’s Goldfish.
